Research in hematology and oncology has seen remarkable growth over the last decade, and keeping up with the literature has only gotten harder. HemeOncBuddy is a focused reference for fellows and trainees: pivotal clinical trial summaries, interactive staging flashcards, and concise board-prep notes — all kept current from a single source of truth.
Every trial summary follows the same structure: background and inclusion criteria, study arms, primary and secondary endpoints, median follow-up, key efficacy results, and notable adverse events. Results are always reported in the same order — experimental arm first, control arm second — so once you learn the pattern you can scan summaries quickly. The database is updated on an ongoing basis from primary literature.
Team
HemeOncBuddy began during the first year of fellowship as a way to automate sharing of personal study notes. It grew into a collaborative project with contributions from many fellows and editors over the years. The site is currently maintained and actively edited by Veli Bakalov, MD, with ongoing contributions from a small group of clinical editors.

Clinical and research interests in thoracic oncology and head & neck malignancies, with a particular focus on lung cancer screening and the application of AI-related technologies in oncology.
Author of all flashcards and board-preparation notes; primary curator of the trials database.
Thejus Jayakrishnan, MD
GI medical oncologist focused on early-onset gastrointestinal malignancies, using multi-omic approaches to identify biomarkers for screening and therapy. Multiple ASCO Conquer Cancer Merit Award recipient. Works with the Young-Onset Colorectal Cancer Center at Dana-Farber.

Thejus and I trained together as internal medicine co-residents at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh — one of the friends and colleagues whose feedback shaped this project from day one.
Pragnan Kancharla, MD
Hematologist and medical oncologist with research interests across solid tumor oncology, cardio-oncology, and disparities in cancer outcomes. Practices within the MedStar Health system.
Contributor to clinical trial summaries.
Pragnan and I were heme/onc co-fellows at Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh — close colleague and friend, and one of the earliest sounding boards for the project.
